This article is about when a small galaxy crashes into a much much bigger one.  When a galaxy crashes it’s like a car or train crash when sometimes one of the cars ao train explodes, but when a galaxy crashes it make a impact and plows up .  but it dosen’t disapear. The bigger galaxy asorbs  the smaller one.  Well in thought you would be interested in this artcal.  I chouse this article because it was a very intresting.  :)

Mars by Libby 12/1/06

Mars got it’s name from the god of war. They think it got it from it’s red color. the first ship to visit Mars was the Mariner 4 in 1965. Mars tempreture is significantly ellptical. This severly changes the tempreture so that the winter tempreture is about 218k (-55C, -67F.)  In the summer the tempreture is 300 K (27C, 80F).

Even though Mars is much smaller than earth it has the same hard surface as Earth.

Much of Mars surface has a lot of cater highlands rift valleys hills and plains there is probably more but we can only see so much from the space craft that was sent to Mars.

Like Mercury and the Moon Mars lacks active pllate tectonincs: there is nothing to show any sign of a horizantal moon like the folded mountains on earth.

There is evidence of rivers and valley floods. Evidence was taken by Mars global surveyer. Any floods though wouldv’e occured 4 billion years ago although in 2005 there was evidence of a frozen sea that couldv’e occured 5 million years ago.

A long time ago Mars was more like earth because they both used all there carbon dioxide to create carbonate rocks but unlike Earth Mars can’t recycle it’s carbon dioxide.

I could go on forever about Mars but I think it might bore you so  I will stop here.

Space rock makes a crash landing!

December 1st, 2006 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

A grapefruit-size meteorite crashed through the roof of a house in New Zealand this spring, slammed into a couch, hit the ceiling, and rolled under a table. Experts say the extremely hot rock was traveling about 300 miles an hour when it crashed through the roof.
Astronomer Joel Schiff of the University of Auckland said, “It is most likely a chip off an asteroid and is older than anything else on Earth.” The meteorite is about 4.5 billion years old. “It is one of the few physical records of the early solar system,” Schiff said.
According to experts, the space rock was probably traveling 30,000 miles an hour when it reached Earth’s atmosphere. Earth’s atmosphere slowed it down. Most likely the space rock came to Earth from an asteroid belt located between Mars and Jupiter, some 435 million miles away.
Luckily no one was hurt when the meteorite landed, but it could mean money from the heavens for homeowners Phil and Brenda Archer. Experts say the space rock is probably worth more than U.S. $30,000!

Naked Eye Comet Nick Ronan

Naked Eye Comet
Once every five  years a Naked Eye Comet streaks trough the sky. Guess what in the next few weeks the Naked Eye Comet will do that. If you want to see  won you don’t need a telescope you just need your eyes. The comets pass by the sun. You can see it with its red glow. They name the comets by the people who discover them. So if you want a comet with you name on it keep on looking. One of the best comet finders in Williams Bradfield. He has found 18 Naked Eye Comets in his life. I hope you people start looking for Naked Eye Comets because they are very cool.

Ali M. Dec 1, 2006 Keeping space free from trash-Feb, 2004

Some people say you can find trash everywhere, and their right! Since 1957, more over 4,000 space satellites have been launched into space. Over the years, the satellites have gotten to old and no longer useful and lead to left over hunks of space trash floating freely around in space. A chief NASA scientist monitored over 3000 objects drifting off in space. Out of those objects, only 600 out of 7oo are still in use. Johnson says 95% of everything in space that the United States is tracking is space trash. He also added there were millions of things still up in space that are to small for the monitors to track. The oldest piece of space track in space is a satellite called Vanguard. Vanguard has been in space since 1958. Space trash moves so quickly, it can get up to 18,000 miles per hour. The fast activity of the space trash makes it so that NASA has to replace 2 or 3 windows on every space shuttle mission. NASA has and still is taking care of this trash problem. Today, space trash does little damage to satellites and space shuttles. NASA makes sure no fuel is left over in the satellites which makes fewer explosions that cause bits of the satellite hurtling through space. Johnson calls it a real success story. Space trash was on it’s way to becoming a bit environmental issue such as air and water pollution. Hopefully, NASA and Johnson will continue working together to keep space from turning into a galaxy of garbage!

Space Rock Makes Crash Landing by Carrie

Have you ever had a meteorite crash through the roof of your house, slam into your big red couch, and then hit the floor? Probably not! I haven’t, but Brenda and Pat Archer have!

In spring, 2004, a 4.5 billion year old grapefruit sized meteorite crashed through a New Zealand house at about 30,000 mph!

This rock is most likely a chip off of an asteroid belt somewhere between Mars and jupiter. Scientists say that this rock is only the ninth known meteorite to land in New Zealand!

If this happens to you, don’t throw this rock away! This one rock is worth more than $30,000!!!

A Distant Discovery Jake S. 12/1

In November of 2003, astronomers Mike Brown, David Rabino-Witz, and Chad Trujillo discovered a new planetoid now named Sedna after the Inuit goddess of the sea. This amazing discovery was made in Pasadena, California.
Sedna is about 8 million miles from Earth. It was the largest object found in 2003 since 1930 when Pluto was found. Sedna’s diameter of 800-1100 miles makes it 3/4 the size of Pluto. The astronomers think it might be larger than Quaoar (kwah-oh-ar), another planetoid the same team discovered in 2002.

Would you like to have astronauts back on the moon? Conner Lajoie 12/1/06

Would you like to have astronauts back on the moon? Well by 2018 NASA is planning to have astronauts be on the moon and stay there. The crew of NASA is planning to do this by using parts from the Apollo program. The vehicle they are planning to use is the CEV (Crew Exploration Vehicle). This instrument will be able to hold four astronauts that will be able to land and walk on the moon. This device will give them seven days to work on the moon base before they need to leave. To construct this moon base they are hoping to have a minimum two missions a year so the base can go up quicker. After all this is done the are planning ahead to do this on mars.

Celebration

November 2003-

This December, one of the worlds most important telescopes will celebrate the tenth anniversary of it’s restoration.  It is one of ten telescopes in outer space, this is the one that overlooks Mars. The telescope didn’t work that well until it was restored ten years ago. Since it has been fixed it has helped scientists make many discoveries in the outer space.
